Festivities continue whole day

The festivities start early morning with the gifting of Sargi to the women who are fasting. They have some food before sunrise and the whole day is spent without consuming even a drop of water. The whole day there is a festive mood, henna is applied and the lady adorns her best clothes. Usually all women in a neighborhood or locality gather in a place in the evening and sing songs praising the event and also its importance.

When there is moon rise the wives view it via the sieve and then similarly view the husband. Then the wife performs an Arti. The husband then feeds water and sweets to the wife and breaks her fast and many a time the wife is given a gift by her husband as a token of love and regard for her sacrifice and good gesture. During such festivals all the relatives and friends make it a point to meet and greet each other.

Changing times bring new rituals

In this changing times a digital ecosystem is in place. Though work takes people away and keeps them at a geographically apart it is possible to send Karwa Chauth gifts to India. Staying away from the family it should not be a cause of worry even during the festivals.
